Let’s take a look at a few common FAQs about Botox treatment from our office now.
Are Botox Results Instant?
No. Botox does begin working immediately, and starts smoothing out your face and reducing the appearance of wrinkles right away. However, it usually takes between 3-5 days to start seeing results from your Botox treatment, and it can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of Botox.
The process for each patient is different, so don’t worry if you aren’t seeing results after a few days. It may take a little while!
How Does Botox Work?
Botox works by selectively paralyzing some of the nerves in your face. The botulinum toxin used to create Botox is extremely powerful, and has the ability to block nerve signals that usually are sent to your muscles. This causes the muscles to relax, and smooths out your face, causing wrinkles and fine lines to disappear.
While it’s mostly known for its ability to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, Botox isn’t just used for cosmetic treatments. It can also treat things like blepharospasm (uncontrollable blinking), strabismus (lazy eye), and even excessive underarm sweating.
How Does Botox Change My Face?
The most noticeable difference you’ll find is that the fine lines and wrinkles around your face will disappear almost completely. Forehead lines, crow’s feet, smile lines, and frown lines can usually be eliminated using Botox. Your face will look much smoother.
As a side effect, though, you may notice that it’s a bit harder to do things like raise your eyebrows. You may look a bit different when you frown and smile, as well, since some of your smaller facial muscles will be unresponsive.
It’s also important to note that Botox cannot wrinkles caused by sun damage or gravity. These will not respond to Botox treatment, so you should keep this in mind when considering whether or not Botox is right for you.
How Is Botox Made?
Botox is made with the bacteria “Clostridium botulinum.” This bacteria, which often grows in dented cans of food, produces botulinum toxin, the most potent toxin known to mankind.
However, this deadly toxin is harmless when used in small doses and injected into the face. Botox is made from a mixture of botulinum toxin, sodium chloride, and albumin, which ensures that it’s completely safe to use.
